The Wonder of it All

It's a crazy mixed up wonderful world out there...and it only seems to be getting better!

With all the stuff swirling around us these days, it is sometimes the biggest challenge to just be still and do nothing. If you try doing this and are successful, you can get in touch with the great things in life that have always been with us and are not going away anytime soon.

I admit that if you expose yourself to some of the things "going on" in this world today, you might get the impression that things are falling apart fast. But have faith - that is not really the case because underneath that apparent craziness lies peace, contentment and all the other good things in life.

With people moving so fast these days (going where I do not know), it's rare to take time to enjoy the simple things that are around us. I really think that so much of what is "happening out there" is created by the "crisis team." After all, isn't it easier to control people when they are moving so fast they have no time to think things through? And isn't it also easier to control people when they are afraid? So much of what is "happening out there" can appear to be scary, but when looked at from a distance (detachment folks), these are just events happening in the world. And there is nothing to be scared about.

However, because of the message being pumped at us, we need to stay vigilant and counter that influence. So when people ask you how you are doing these days, just say "great," because YOU ARE GREAT.

Have a beautiful day.

Does Karma Rule the World?

I have been thinking about this for so long, and every day there is more and more evidence to suggest that it is true- Karma does rule the world.

Little things and not so little things make me think this. I was at the health food store lunch time today and went to the juice bar. I like to get a combination of fruit and vegetables(apple, pear, carrot, beets, parsley and ginger) with a side shot of wheatgrass. There were a few people ahead of me so I watched them order. Two people ordered wheatgrass and I watched as the server gave them(literally) a thimble size portion that is one ounce. They were milling around when I ordered my two drinks, so they saw how the server prepared them. He prepared my shot of wheat grass first, but instead of giving me a thimble size portion, he made mine in a normal plastic glass, filling it more than a third up. One of the girls watching asked whether this was a "double shot" of wheat grass. I told her no, but I whispered to her half kidding(but half serious too) "this is the size you get when you treat him(the server) well." She just looked at me and she and her friend left, without tipping the server of course. I drank my wheat grass(or should I saw gargled, for max benefit), waited for my other juice, drank it. I then gave the server a tip, which usually ranges from one to five dollars.

There is a relative of my mother who I knew growing up as a kid. This was someone very close to me, who was always around. I watched with horror as this person abused and mistreated the people around her, including my very young and innocent parents. Even though I was only four years old, I sensed that something was amiss; there was some impropriety afoot that I could feel without, at that tender age, being able to articulate. What I am about to say is not gloating or retribution of any sort, but this relative just lost most of her savings to Bernie Madoff.

There is another thing I noticed about karma and relationships. Most relationships, whether business or personal, are founded upon a set of rules that are mutually agreed upon at the outset. In a perfect world, the rules change midstream because both parties have agreed! However, in the world we live in this is often not the case. So if one of the parties unilaterally changes these rules and tries to shove it done the throat of the other person, there is usually resistance and the person doesn't get what they want. This is another everyday example of karma at work.

You disagree with this, think it is "too simple," or think I am naive in believing that karma rules the world. Great. But take a few moments to honestly reflect on the type of energy you use when you don't get what you want. Does it mirror the type of energy you put in?
